“I have summoned here some of the bravest souls I that know of,” the young man said to his shadowy companion, “Several are known to be former servants of the Crown. Some have reputations as monster hunters, others as stalwart and decorated soldiers of Cyre, and some are examples of devout Vassals of the Host. I believe they will serve, for their own means as well as for this most urgent matter that may have an effect upon their sundered peoples.”
“Yes, all of those you have shown me show some promise and skill,” replied the cloaked figure, shuffling through the papers he held, “But can they all be trusted?”
“On my honor as the Governor of New Cyre, I do believe that they are trustworthy,” the young man said as he turned to look out his window.
“And Miss Maartel, the courier? Some say that she was a spy during the Last War, that the missives she carried were turned over to her parent nation before being turned over to their recipients? My Prince, she might not be the wisest choice.”
“My instructions to her guardians will be to watch her very closely. And her sympathies to our plight are quite open, unless something underlies them,” Prince Oargev replied coolly.
The cloaked shadow of a man placed a gloved hand upon the Prince’s shoulder.
“I do not mean to insult you with my reticence at your choice, my Lord. I only mean to express my concerns. This missive’s importance cannot be understated.”
“I understand,” the Prince said with a sigh, “Believe me, I do. The letter must arrive in Arcanix to alert the Arcane Congress of what has been found.”
The cloaked man’s even smile was revealed to the light, even as his eyes remained shadowed, when he moved through the room and to the door.
“Indeed. I must go, there is someone I must meet. But I will see you again soon, after your party is on its way.”
“Very well, Shadowmaster. And my thanks for your aid in this again.”
Oargev turned as he spoke, but the cloaked man was already gone.
Each of the PCs has received a letter requesting their presence at the City Hall of New Cyre, to meet before the Mayor and Prince of Cyre, Oargev ir’Wynarn. The matter they have been entrusted with is the guardianship of an Orien courier carrying an important missive bound for Arcanix in Aundair.
